You've built or purchased a new home in Bangalore. Before you move in — or sometimes, even before construction is complete — a Vastu Shanti Puja is recommended. Here's what it is and why it matters.

What Is Vastu Shanti?

Vastu Shanti is a Vedic ritual that honours the Vastu Purusha — the cosmic being whose body is believed to occupy every plot of land. The ritual asks for the Vastu Purusha's blessing and harmonizes the home's energy across all eight directions (ashta dik).

How Is It Different from Grihapravesha?

Common confusion — both rituals are done around moving into a new home. The distinction:

• Vastu Shanti · focused on the land and building energy. Can be done before the home is furnished. Addresses Vastu defects (doshas) if any.
• Grihapravesha · the formal "entry" ritual performed when the family first enters to live. Includes consecrating the kitchen, inviting Lakshmi.

Most families perform both — Vastu Shanti first (especially if there are Vastu concerns) and Grihapravesha on the day they actually move in.

When to Perform Vastu Shanti

• Before construction begins — Bhoomi Puja with Vastu elements
• After construction completes, before moving in — most common timing
• After Vastu correction work — if a Vastu consultant recommended modifications
• During renovation — especially for major additions like new rooms, pooja room, kitchen relocation
