Significance
Satyanarayana means “the Lord who is Truth”. It is a worship of Lord Vishnu that asks for nothing elaborate, only sincerity, truthfulness and gratitude. That is why it is one of the most loved pujas in Indian homes.
Satyanarayan Puja is above all a thanksgiving: for a wish fulfilled, a recovery, a promotion or simply a good year.
Families perform it after a griha pravesh, a wedding, a child's birth, a new job or a business opening, to begin with blessings.
The katha and aarti bring the family together; the puja is believed to remove obstacles and bring harmony.
Lord Vishnu as Satyanarayana is worshipped with Lakshmi, and devotees pray for well-being and abundance.
In the Skanda Purana, Lord Vishnu tells Narada that this vrata is an easy path for people of Kali Yuga to overcome suffering.
It is traditionally performed on Purnima, Ekadashi or Sankranti, and on any day of joy. Anyone may perform it, with faith.

The vrat katha
The katha comes from the Reva Khanda of the Skanda Purana. Each chapter tells of people who prospered by keeping their word and honouring the prasad, and suffered when they forgot. You will hear all five chapters in full.

A sankalpa states who is offering the puja and from where. Pandit ji recites it for each registration with name, gotra, nakshatra, rashi and the place you live, so the merit of the puja is offered in your name. If you do not know your gotra, nakshatra or rashi, choose "Don't know".
