About Bhima Ratha Shanti
Bhima Ratha Shanti is the traditional Vedic ceremony performed on completion of 70 years of age (Saptati). The name refers to the "Ratha of Bhima" — the chariot of ageing that carries the individual into the most powerful astrological phase of life. The ritual pacifies adverse Saturn and Rahu-Ketu effects common in the 70s, renews Ayushya (longevity) through homa and japa, and celebrates the life and lineage of the individual. Often combined with Punar Vivaha (symbolic re-wedding) when the spouse is alive, Bhima Ratha Shanti is the natural successor to the 60th Shasti Poorti.
When to perform it
Performed when the individual completes 70 years — calculated by birth nakshatra and lunar tithi, not the Gregorian date. Auspicious on Thursday, Friday, or Sunday in Shukla Paksha under Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, or Rohini nakshatra. Our senior pandit calculates the precise muhurtam.

Shasti Poorti = 60th year (Ugra Ratha Shanti). Bhima Ratha = 70th year (Bhima Ratha Shanti). Sahasra Chandra Darshana = 80th year. Each is a distinct Vedic milestone with its own homa and astrological focus.
My mother is 72 — is it too late?
Not at all. Traditionally performed at 70, but can be done anytime afterwards with full benefit. The Ayushya Homa and Mrityunjaya Japa are always beneficial.
My father's spouse has passed — can we still do this?
Yes. The Punar Vivaha portion is replaced with Vishnu-Lakshmi Puja and Vishnu Sahasranama paath. Navagraha Shanti, Ayushya Homa, and Mrityunjaya Japa remain fully intact.
