About Kumbhabhishekam
Kumbhabhishekam is the supreme consecration ceremony of a Hindu temple — the climactic ritual in which a procession of sanctified kalashas (water-pots), their water charged by multiple days of homa and mantra japa, is poured over the vimana (shrine dome) and gopuram (gateway tower). This ritual transforms the temple structure from mere stone into a living seat of the deity. Gopuja arranges full Kumbhabhishekam for newly constructed temples, 12-year re-consecrations (Punar Kumbhabhishekam), community shrines, and private family temples across Bangalore. A 5–20 pandit team with senior Pradhana Acharya leads the event.
When to perform it
Performed for new temples immediately upon construction completion, and for existing temples every 12 years (as per Agama tradition). Auspicious muhurtams are calculated by the Pradhana Acharya based on the temple's moola-deity, grama-devata, and the Panchanga. Typical duration is 3, 5, 7, or 9 days with the climactic abhisheka on the final day.
The South Indian procedure
The classical home of Kumbhabhishekam — follows Agama Shastra (Pancharatra for Vishnu temples, Shaiva Agama for Shiva, Shakta for Devi). Includes multi-day Yagashala construction, 5 / 9 / 16 / 32 kalasha sthapana, per-kalasha homa chains, Netra-Unmilana, Jeevakala Sthapana, and climactic Maha-Abhisheka over the vimana.
This is the form our pandits follow by default in Hebbal — Mysore families are overwhelmingly Kannada-tradition. Tell us if your family follows a different sampradaya and we will match a purohit accordingly.

Kumbhabhishekam — common questions
We have built a small family temple — is Kumbhabhishekam needed?
Yes. Any freshly constructed temple, whether community or private family shrine, requires Kumbhabhishekam before regular worship begins. For small family temples, a 3-day / 5-kalasha scale is sufficient.
How many pandits are needed?
Scale depends on kalasha count. 5 kalasha = 5 ritviks + 1 Acharya. 9 kalasha = 9 + 1. 16 = 16 + 1. 32 = 32 + 1. Our team coordinates all ritviks for you.
How is pricing determined?
The starting price is for small 3-day, 5-kalasha private temples. Pricing scales with duration (3/5/7/9 days), kalasha count, acharya seniority, yagashala construction, and annadana scale. We provide a custom quote after site visit.
What is Punar Kumbhabhishekam and when is it needed?
Traditional Agama prescribes re-consecration every 12 years to refresh the temple's divine charge. Also performed after natural disasters, major damage, or extended non-worship periods.
