About Navagraha Shanti Puja
The nine planets (Navagrahas) govern different aspects of human life in Vedic astrology · from career and relationships to health and wealth. When a planet is malefic, debilitated, or in a difficult house in one's horoscope, it manifests as challenges in that area of life. Navagraha Shanti Puja systematically propitiates each of the nine planets using specific mantras, flowers, grains, and rituals, bringing balance and reducing negative influences.
When to perform it
When recommended by a Jyotisha (astrologer) for specific planetary doshas like Sadesati (Saturn), Rahu-Ketu period, or debilitated planets. Also performed during Rahu Kalam, for general well-being, or annually as preventive measure.
The South Indian procedure
South Indian Navagraha Puja uses nine different grains, nine different flowers, nine different colored cloth items, and nine specific trees' leaves · each corresponding to one of the nine planets. The chant includes Navagraha Stotram from Surya Siddhanta.
This is the form our pandits follow by default in Vijayanagar — Mysore families are overwhelmingly Kannada-tradition. Tell us if your family follows a different sampradaya and we will match a purohit accordingly.
