About Rudrabhishekam
Rudrabhishekam is the sacred bathing (abhishekam) of Shiva Linga with various sanctifying liquids while reciting the Sri Rudram from the Yajurveda · one of the most powerful Vedic hymns. This ritual is considered supremely potent for spiritual purification, removal of sins, healing of diseases, and attaining moksha (liberation). The chanting of Namakam and Chamakam during the abhishekam creates powerful vibrations that transform the space.
When to perform it
On Maha Shivaratri, Pradosham (13th lunar day), every Monday, during Shravan month, or as a remedy for specific planetary doshas (especially Saturn and Mars). Also performed for healing illness and during difficult life periods.
The South Indian procedure
South Indian Rudrabhishekam includes the recitation of Sri Rudram (Namakam + Chamakam) in its complete form with all 11 Anuvakas. The abhishekam is done with 9 sacred liquids: milk, curd, ghee, honey, coconut water, rose water, sugarcane juice, panchamrita, and Gangajal.
This is the form our pandits follow by default in Nazarbad — Mysore families are overwhelmingly Kannada-tradition. Tell us if your family follows a different sampradaya and we will match a purohit accordingly.

Rudrabhishekam — common questions
What is the difference between Rudrabhishekam and Laghu Rudrabhishekam?
Rudrabhishekam is the full recitation of Sri Rudram (both Namakam and Chamakam). Laghu Rudrabhishekam is a shorter version. Full Rudrabhishekam is more powerful and recommended for specific remedies.
Can Rudrabhishekam be done at home or only at a Shiva temple?
It can be done at home if a Shivalinga is present, or at a Shiva temple. We perform both home and temple abhishekams. Many families have a small Shivalinga at home.

Planning your Rudrabhishekam in Nazarbad
Nazarbad sits in Central Mysore, close to Mysore Palace, and we serve the whole belt around it — Lakshmipuram, Ittigegud, Chamarajapuram, Agrahara included. Whether you are in an independent house, one of the newer apartment projects, or a family home that has been in the locality for generations, the rudrabhishekam is performed at your address with the samagri brought to you.
Mysore families usually want the Kannada tradition, and that is our default here — the sankalpa, the procedure and the explanation all in Kannada. If your family follows a different sampradaya, or you need the ritual explained in English for relatives joining from abroad, say so when you book and we will match a purohit accordingly.
