The South Indian procedure
South Indian tradition uses Navagraha Homa followed by dedicated Shani Homa with 108 or 1008 ahutis of black sesame, blue lotus, and Shami leaves. Neelanjana Samabhasam stotra is recited. Tila taila (sesame oil) is offered to a Shani idol and donated along with iron, black cloth, and urad dal.
