About Nischitartha
Nischitartha — also called Vagdana, Nischayartham, Kashayartha, Mangni, Roka, or Tilak depending on region — is the Vedic engagement ceremony in which both families formally declare the marriage alliance before Agni, deity, and community. It is far more than an exchange of rings: the pandit performs Ganapathi Puja, Navagraha Puja, a formal Sankalpa of both the bride and groom in their gotras and nakshatras, and the families exchange traditional items (betel leaves, fruits, sweets, gold) sealing the commitment. In Bangalore, Gopuja performs all regional variants — South Indian Nischayartham, Telugu Nischitartham, Karnataka Vagdana, Tamil Nischayam, and North Indian Roka / Tilak / Sagai.
When to Perform
Performed after horoscope matching (kundali milan) is successful and both families have agreed. Auspicious days include Thursday, Friday, Monday in Shukla Paksha under Rohini, Hasta, Uttara Phalguni, or Revati nakshatra. Avoid Bhadra, eclipses, and Shunya tithis. Our pandit helps select the muhurtam.
