Few spiritual undertakings bring a family together quite like an Akhand Path. For a full day and night, the home fills with the continuous sound of the Ramcharitmanas, an unbroken flame burns, and Lord Rama's presence is invited to stay. This guide covers everything you need to know about the Akhand Ramcharitmanas Path — also called Akhand Ramayana Paath — and how to organise one in Bangalore.
What is Akhand Ramcharitmanas Path?
Akhand means "unbroken." An Akhand Path is the continuous, uninterrupted recitation of the entire Ramcharitmanas — Goswami Tulsidas's retelling of the Ramayana — from Bal Kanda to Uttar Kanda, completing all seven Kandas in exactly 24 hours without a single pause. Because the text recited is the Ramcharitmanas (the Ramayana), people use the names Akhand Ramayana Paath, Akhand Ramcharitmanas Path, and Akhand Path interchangeably — they all describe the same ceremony.
The Rules of an Akhand Path
What makes an Akhand Path "akhand" is the strictness of its rules:
- The recitation must never stop — not for a second — from start to finish
- No page may be skipped and no line repeated out of order
- The Akhand Diya (sacred flame) must burn continuously for the full 24 hours and must not be allowed to extinguish
- At least one family member should be present to listen at all times
- Pandits recite in relay shifts so the sound is seamless as one reader hands over to the next
How Many Pandits Are Needed?
To sustain 24 unbroken hours, a relay team of 6 to 8 trained pandits is required. They rotate in shifts so that as one pandit's voice tires, the next continues without a gap. The family is not expected to recite — simply listening to the Akhand Path is considered highly meritorious. Full details are on our Akhand Ramayana Paath service page.
Can an Akhand Path Be Done in an Apartment?
Yes — we perform Akhand Path in apartments across Bangalore. The setup is kept compact and considerate of neighbours, the sacred diya is contained safely indoors, and the recitation volume is managed for night hours. Whether you live in a 2BHK in HSR Layout or a villa in Sarjapur, the ceremony can be adapted to your space.
The Sequence of the Day
- Day before — consultation, space preparation, and samagri delivery
- Ganapathi Puja and Sankalpa to begin
- Kalash Sthapana and Navagraha Puja
- Lighting of the Akhand Diya — which must burn for 24 hours
- Paath begins with Mangalacharana and Bal Kanda
- Continuous relay recitation through all seven Kandas
- An optional mid-point aarti at the 12-hour mark
- Completion at Uttar Kanda, followed by Maha Aarti with conch
- Optional concluding Havan and prasad distribution to all
When Should You Perform an Akhand Path?
The most popular occasions are:
- Ram Navami — the most auspicious day of all for a Ramayana recitation
- Wedding anniversaries and milestone family events
- Fulfillment of a vow (mannat) after a prayer is answered
- A new home or business blessing
- Recovery from a serious illness
- Pitru Paksha — for the peace of ancestors (pitru shanti)
For Ram Navami and peak festive season, book 4–6 weeks ahead; otherwise a minimum of two weeks' notice lets us coordinate the pandit team and samagri.
Akhand Path vs Ramayana Saptah
An Akhand Path is 24 hours non-stop. A Ramayana Saptah spreads the same text over seven days — one Kanda per day — with pauses, which suits families who prefer an evening gathering across a week. Both are powerful; the Akhand format is more intensive and traditionally considered more meritorious. If a multi-day format suits you better, see our Parayana service.
Akhand Ramcharitmanas Path Cost in Bangalore
Akhand Ramayana / Akhand Ramcharitmanas Path starts from ₹14,999. Because it needs a relay team of 6–8 pandits for a full 24 hours plus complete samagri and the Akhand Diya, the final price depends on the number of pandits, whether a concluding Havan is added, and your location. See indicative rates on our pricing page.
For NRI Families
You can sponsor a complete Akhand Path at your parents' home in Bangalore while joining the opening sankalpa and concluding aarti over live video. The sankalpa is taken in your gotra and name, and prasad is delivered to your family.
