About Sunderkand Paath

Sunderkand is the fifth chapter (Kanda) of Valmiki's Ramayana and Goswami Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas · describing Lord Hanuman's heroic journey across the ocean to Lanka, his search for Mata Sita, his encounter with Ravana, and his triumphant return. "Sunder" means beautiful · this chapter is considered the most beautiful and most powerful for devotional recitation (Paath). Regular Sunderkand Paath is believed to remove fear, obstacles, negative energy, and bring the direct blessings of both Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama.

When to perform it

Tuesdays and Saturdays are most auspicious (Hanuman's days). Also performed on Hanuman Jayanti, Ram Navami, full moon days, new beginnings, during times of difficulty, or as a monthly vow. Can be performed any day with sincere devotion.

The South Indian procedure

In South Indian homes, Sunderkand from Valmiki Ramayana (in Sanskrit) is recited alongside. Telugu and Kannada families often conduct it during Hanuman Jayanti with vibhuti and jasmine offerings.

This is the form our pandits follow by default in Chamundipuram — Mysore families are overwhelmingly Kannada-tradition. Tell us if your family follows a different sampradaya and we will match a purohit accordingly.

Sunderkand Paath — common questions

How long does Sunderkand Paath take?

A complete recitation takes 3–5 hours depending on speed and number of pandits. We offer both a solo pandit recitation and a group Saptah format (7 pandits completing in ~2 hours).

Can Sunderkand be done at home?

Absolutely. Sunderkand Paath is traditionally performed at home. Our pandit brings all samagri. The family is encouraged to sit and listen · this itself is considered highly meritorious.

What is the difference between Sunderkand and Akhand Ramayana?

Sunderkand is one chapter (Kanda 5) of the Ramayana, focused on Hanuman. Akhand Ramayana is the non-stop recitation of the entire Ramcharitmanas (7 Kandas) over 24 hours without pause.

How much does Sunderkand Paath cost in Bangalore?

Sunderkand Paath starts from ₹3,499 all-inclusive — covering the pandit, complete samagri kit, Hanuman Chalisa, aarti, and prasad. A group Saptah format with multiple pandits is priced higher. Final cost depends on solo vs group recitation and your area.

Which day is best for Sunderkand Paath?

Tuesday and Saturday are the most auspicious — these are Lord Hanuman's days. It is also highly recommended on Hanuman Jayanti, Ram Navami, and Purnima (full moon). That said, Sunderkand can be recited any day with sincere devotion, especially during times of difficulty or fear.

Can you organise a group Sunderkand Paath for an apartment community or office?

Yes. Group Sunderkand (Samuhik Sunderkand) is one of our most-requested formats. We arrange a team of pandits and a melodious group recitation for apartment clubhouses, temples, offices, and community halls across Bangalore — with mic/sound setup and prasad for all attendees.

Do you offer online or live Sunderkand Paath for NRI families?

Yes. We conduct live Sunderkand Paath over Zoom or WhatsApp video so NRI families abroad can participate or sponsor a recitation for their parents in Bangalore. You receive the sankalpa in your name and the prasad is delivered to your family.

Planning your Sunderkand Paath in Chamundipuram

Chamundipuram sits in South East Mysore, close to Chamundi Hills foot, and we serve the whole belt around it — Ittigegud, Alanahalli, Nazarbad, Siddhartha Layout included. Whether you are in an independent house, one of the newer apartment projects, or a family home that has been in the locality for generations, the sunderkand paath is performed at your address with the samagri brought to you.
