About Namakarana
Namakarana is the sacred naming samskara for a newborn child · one of the 16 samskaras of Hindu tradition. The ceremony is typically performed on the 11th or 12th day after birth (or on an auspicious day within the first month). The chosen name is whispered in the child's right ear by the father, under the guidance of the pandit, invoking divine blessings for the child's life and character.
📅 When to perform
Traditionally on the 11th or 12th day after birth. If that day is inauspicious, it may be performed on the first auspicious day after the 12th day, within the first month. The name should ideally begin with the syllable indicated by the birth nakshatra.
