History of Sri Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple
Hilltop temple complex with shrines to Anjaneya, Rama and Shiva. Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in a big way.
Ragigudda means "hill of ragi" (finger millet). Local legend says a generous woman once offered a heap of ragi to three wandering sages who were Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in disguise, and the heap turned into this rocky hill.
The present temple complex on the hill is dedicated mainly to Sri Anjaneya, with shrines to Sri Rama, Shiva and other deities. It is one of the most visited temples of south Bangalore, and Hanuman Jayanti and Rama Navami are celebrated with special alankara and bhajans.
