About the temple
Built in 1689 by the Wodeyars beside Tipu's summer palace. Vaikuntha Ekadashi draws large crowds.
Kote Venkataramana Temple was built in 1689 by Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar of Mysore, soon after the Mysore kingdom acquired Bangalore. "Kote" means fort, and the temple stood beside the old Bangalore fort, next to what later became Tipu Sultan's summer palace.
Built in a blend of Dravidian and Vijayanagara styles, it is dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. Its carved pillars and gopuram survive as one of the oldest working temples of the old city, and Vaikuntha Ekadashi brings long queues for the Vaikuntha dwara darshan.
Bring the blessings home
Devotees of Lord Venkateshwara often follow a temple visit with a puja at home. A Gopuja pandit brings the full samagri kit and performs it with the same Vedic vidhi.
