About the temple
The 17th-century temple that gave Malleshwaram its name. Kadalekai Parishe and Shivaratri are celebrated here.
Kadu Malleshwara Temple was built in the 17th century by Venkoji (Ekoji), half-brother of Chhatrapati Shivaji. "Kadu" means forest, and Shiva was worshipped here as Mallikarjuna of the forest. The locality of Malleshwaram takes its name from the temple.
Set among trees on a small rise, the temple is a centre of Malleshwaram's festivals, including its own Kadalekai Parishe and Maha Shivaratri.
