History of Sringeri Sri Sharadamba Temple, Shankar Mutt

The Shankar Mutt in Shankarapuram is the Bangalore branch of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham, the matha established by Adi Shankaracharya. The surrounding locality, Shankarapuram, is named after it.

The complex has shrines to Goddess Sharadamba and to Adi Shankaracharya. It is a centre of Vedic learning and Advaita tradition, and its Navratri and Shankara Jayanti celebrations are among the most traditional in the city.
